Hi! I’m Jason Jacques with Exit Mountain Realty in Brevard, North Carolina. I wanted to invite you to the 10th annual White Squirrel Festival, which was voted the “Best Spring Music Festival in Western North Carolina” by the Asheville Citizen Times!
Every Memorial Day Weekend in Brevard, the town hosts the White Squirrel Festival! You can participate in the 5k or 10k White Squirrel Race, enjoy the 15 free music concerts that are held on Main Street, participate in the Squirrel Box Derby, enjoy 8 blocks worth of vendors, and much more!
The squirrel Box Derby is open to people 8 years old and up, along with local businesses. These participants get to race their homemade derby carts down Jailhouse Hill! Trophies are awarded to the fastest cart and to the cart with the nuttiest design. This is the only opportunity offered to legally break the speed limit going down Jailhouse Hill, with most carts clocking in at 35 miles per hour or faster!
The 6th annual White Squirrel race will take place on May 25 at 8 a.m. There is a 5k race and a 10k race. To register for these races go to Brevardrotary.org. Since this festival is about celebrating the unique existence of the white squirrel, guided tours will be given around Brevard College so you can see one of these rare creatures in person! A White Squirrel exhibit will also be set up so you can learn about the history and habits of these furry critters!
This two day festival offers 15 free musical concerts! This year Brevard is proud to announce that Jupiter Coyote, Acoustic Syndicate, and Shannon Whitworth will be performing! Come out and listen to the bands while you stroll amongst the vendors selling merchandise, crafts, pottery, and paintings. There will also be activities for children and adults!
The festivities will begin on Friday, May 24 with a nighttime concert performance by Jupiter Coyote, and at 9 a.m the next morning be there for the 6th annual Memorial Day Parade! The festivities will go on, rain or shine! Come to downtown Brevard on May 24 through 26 for food, crafts, music, and all sorts of fun activities; where “music meets the mountains!”
