Did you know that the month of June offers the most daylight hours to the people living in the Northern Hemisphere? Did you also know that Brevard, North Carolina has an eventful schedule of fun things to do during these long days? Spend your June month exploring the great outdoors and living the small town life! Here is the schedule of events for Brevard, North Carolina for June 2014!
Throughout the month of June there will be many weekly events! On Mondays head on over to Mountain Music Monday at Oskar Blues Brewery from 6 p.m to 8 p.m.
On Tuesdays visit the Transylvania County Library for their Tuesday Hullabaloo! You and your children can enjoy the books, music, and fun! Two year olds should be there at 10 a.m, two to five year olds at 10:30 a.m, and three to five year olds at 11 a.m. All of these activities will take place in the Freeman Story Room! On Tuesday afternoons from 6:30 p.m to 9 p.m head over to Celestial Mountain Music for their free music jam! Starting on June 17 go to Downtown Brevard to join in on the Old Time Street Dancing! This event is free and begins at 6:30 p.m in front of the Transylvania County Courthouse. Bring a lawnchair if you want to just sit and watch!
Wednesdays will bring my fun for your children at the Transylvania County Library. Music, storytelling, and puppetry will be held in the Rogow Room at 3 p.m. Age limits change for each event so check with the library before you head over! Afterwards the Tail Waggin’ Tutors will be in at 5 p.m, so your children can read aloud with a furry pal!
Every Thursday night throughout the month of June the Silvermont Mansion will host a Mountain Music Jam! Come to this free event at 7:30 p.m to relax and enjoy some good ol’ music! Starting on June 12 the Cradle of Forestry’s Woodsy Owl’s Curiosity club will meet at 10:30 a.m on Thursdays!
On Friday nights head on up to the Lake Toxaway Community Center for food, mountain music, and clogging from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. This Friday Night Jamboree is definitely one that you don’t want to miss! The Transylvania County Library will be holding Music @ Sunset Outdoor Concerts starting at 7:30 p.m at the amphitheater.
Early on Saturday mornings venture over to the corner of Johnson and Jordan Streets. From 8 a.m to 12 p.m there is a farmers market! The Transylvania Farmers Market has more than fifty vendors selling local products. There are countless products offered from meats and produce, to cheeses and oils. There is something for everyone at this quaint little market! Go to www.transylvaniafarmersmarket.com to find out more! That night, head on over to Cathey’s Creek Community Center to relax and listen to Joe Byers and Smokey Mountain Cutups from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.
June second you can take a photography class at the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center! If you are younger than fourteen we are sorry to inform you that you can not take this class! Maybe next year? Registration is also required for this event so call the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center while there are still openings!
June third is a Tuesday night! So check the weekly events schedule to see what fun things there are to do on this night!
On June fourth the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be hosting Introductory Fly Fishing classes for children 12 and up! Children can also earn prizes for reading over the summer through the Transylvania County Library’s Summer Reading Program. There will be a drum circle on June fifth at the Unitarian Universalists Church from 7 p.m to 8 p.m
June six will begin the Potters from Western North Carolina Exhibit at the Transylvania Community Arts Council. The gallery is open from 9:30 a.m to 4:30 on weekdays. Hurry in and see this event because it ends on June twentieth. The Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be hosting another Introductory Fly Fishing class on this day for children between the ages of eight and fifteen. Brevard College will also be hosting a free Craft show on the Campus from 9 a.m to 5 p.m
On June seventh the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be hosting another Introductory Fly Fishing class on this day for children twelve and up. The Brevard Blues Festival will be held at 3 p.m at the Brevard Music Center. For tickets to this event visit the BMC box office or 185 King Street. Mountain Roots, Inc. will be hosting Family Clay at the Transylvania Community Arts Council from 9 a.m till 11 a.m. Then from 6 p.m to 8 p.m they will be holding Try Pottery for adults and children fifteen and up. Each event costs $40 and registration is required. Call the TC Arts for more information! The Craft show at Brevard College will also be held again on this day.
The Brevard Community Band will feature clarinet soloist Brian Hermanson in their “A Night at the Opera” concert at 3 p.m. on June eighth. This concert will be held at the Brevard Music Center’s Whittington – Pfohl Auditorium. Tickets are $10 each with students and children under eighteen gaining free admission.
June ninth begins the first day of Computer Animation Classes at the Transylvania County Library. This class will be held from 10 a.m to 5 p.m through June thirteenth for children between the ages of ten and twelve. Registration is required for this event!
In the Dupont State forest on June tenth people twelve and up can learn Beginners Fly Fish Casting. Children between the ages of four and seven can also take a class on raising trout! See the end of this events calendar for registration information for all Pisgah Wildlife Education Center events.
The Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will have a BB Gun shooting Range for children between the ages of eight and fifteen on June eleventh!
Marc Camoletti’s “Don’t Dress for Dinner” will be at the Brevard Little Theater from June twelfth to June twenty-second. Go to www.BrevardLittleTheater.com for more information. The Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be having a class on how to catch and cook trout for people twelve and up.
Introduction to Tenkara 101 will be held at the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center for people twelve and up on June thirteenth. Then the Sylvan Squares Square dance will be held from 6:30 p.m to 9 p.m at St. Timothy United Methodist Church.
On June fourteenth the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will hold an Archery class for people eight and up. There will also be a class called “Be Bear Aware” which is open to people of all ages! This day is also National Get Outdoors Day at the Cradle of Forestry, this event is free and you should call (828) 877 – 3130 for more information.
From June 16 to June 20 the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be holding a daily class called “A Week in the Water.” This class is open to children between the ages of eight and fifteen. The Transylvania Community Arts Council will be holding their Summer Art Camp for children between the ages of five and twelve throughout this week. To find out more information and register your child call (828) 883 – 2029. Brevard Little Theater will be holding their “Tot Hollywood” camp during this week also. The Transylvania County Library will be having their Mad Scientists Workshop at the Library’s Rogow Room. Then they will be holding Book Nuts Book Club in the Freeman Storytime Room. Registration is required for both of these events.
A noon performance by a cappella group will be held in the Transylvania Rogow Room on June seventeenth. This Bag Lunch Arts Program is proud to host the group Blissing! Come out and enjoy the show! At 5 p.m that afternoon the Library will be hosting an outdoor concert at the outdoor amphitheater. This concert will feature Air Force Clarinet Quartet.
Charlie Hope will be performing a Pajama-Time Sing Along at the Transylvania County Library’s Rogow Room at 7 p.m on June nineteenth. This event is open to children of all ages!
From June twentieth to June twenty-second the Hunger Games Unofficial Fan Tours will be hosted at Earthshine Discovery Center. For more information on this event go to www.earthshinediscovery.com. The Silvermont 2nd Floor House Museum will be open from 2 p.m to 4 p.m on June twentieth.
The week of June twenty-first is Brevard’s Arts and Culture Week. This Jerome and Summey sponsored program will have more than sixty events in one week. The Family Clay by Mountain Roots, INC. will be back at the Transylvania Community Arts Council from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. This event is $40 and call the Transylvania Community Arts Council to register. The Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be holding a stream investigation activity for children between the ages of eight and thirteen. There will also be an Introduction to Tenkara: Level II class for children twelve and up. Then there will be a class on raising trout for children between the ages of four and seven. This day is also bug day at the Cradle of Forestry. Come by to learn all about insects and other arthropods.
June twenty-first is also the opening night at Brevard Music Center. Come to an Evening with Itzhak Perlman. This event begins at 7:30 p.m at the Whittington-Pfhol Auditorium. Go to www.BrevardMusic.org to find out more! From 10 a.m to 5 p.m there will be music, food, and fun at SIlvermont Park! Come by for the “Celebrating Silvermont: A Family Festival” and have a lot of fun! The AAUW Book Sale will be held in the Brevard College Boshamer Gym from 10 a.m to 7 p.m, ending on June twenty-sixth. Money raised in this sale will go to fund scholarships for girls and women in Transylvania County. The Silvermont Dance Club will also host a Western Theme Dance. Ravel and Rachmaninoff along with Brevard Sinfonia and conductor Keith Lockhart will be at the Brevard Music Center on June twenty-second. This event will begin at 3 p.m. Go to www.brevardmusic.org.
The week of June twenty-third will be filled with the class “A Week in the Water”. Hosted by the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center this class is open for children between the ages of eight and fifteen. Registration is required for this event. Derek DeBruin will be at the Transylvania County Library on June twenty-fourth giving a slideshow and presentation on “A Long Way From Home And A Long Way To Go: Lessons Learned Alpine Climbing.” This event will begin at 7 p.m in the Rogow Room.
A Student Piano Recital will be held at the Brevard Music Center’s Searcy Hall on June twenty-fifth at 12:30 p.m. This event is free!
Opera’s Greatest Hits will be at the Brevard Music Center at the Scott Concert Hall on June twenty-sixth. This event will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Throughout the week of June twenty-seventh the Transylvania Art Guild’s Summer Arts Showcase will be at the Transylvania Community Arts Council. June twenty-seventh also marks the fourth Friday of the month, which means Brevard’s Fourth Friday Gallery Walk will be held between 5 p.m and 9 p.m. The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education will also be holding another stream investigation for children between the ages of eight and thirteen. They will also be holding a class on raising trout for children between four and seven. At 7:30 p.m that night, conductor Matthias Bamert will be conducting Beethoven’s “Emperor Concerto.” This concert will be held in the Whittington-Pfhol Audiotrium; go to www.brevardmusic.org for more information.
On June twenty-eighth the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center will be holding a class called Kebari Fly Tying 101. This class is open to children between the ages of six and twelve. The Center will also be hosting a class called “Gone Fishin”. Both events require registration so call (828) 877 – 4423. The Twilight Firefly Tour will be held at the Cradle of Forestry from 7:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m. Conductor Matthias will be back at the Brevard Music Center this night to conduct Stravinsky. This event will begin at 7:30 p.m in the Whittington-Pfhol Auditorium.
There will be a Family Concert on June twenty-ninth. This concert will be held at the Brevard Music Center and will be presented by the Brevard Concert Orchestra. Be at the Whitington-Pfhol Auditorium at 3 p.m!
June thirtieth will be Open Mic Nite for Writers at the Transylvania Community Arts Council. This event will be held from 7 p.m till 9 p.m so call (828) 884 – 2787 to register.
